History of aerospace medicine

Background: Aerospace medicine is a branch of preventive medicine that investigates the psychological and physiologic stresses on human body during the flight. In this review we discuss the aerospace medicine from historical aspect.
Materials and methods: This study was conducted as a review article through a systematic search in the Pubmed and some military database using keywords "Aerospace Medicine", "Flight Surgeon" and "IRI Air Force". In total, 11 references between 2001-2009 were found.
Conclusion: In Iran Air Force was established in August 1955 and its "Health and Treatment Administration" is responsible for training the flight surgeons. The first Iranian satellite was lunch on February 2009 and placed in to a low earth orbit and this lunch makes Iran the ninth country to develop and indigenous satellite lunch capability. Iran’s recent progress in aviation and aerospace sciences needs more attention to aerospace medicine.
