Background: Low back pain (LBP) is a major problem among pilots.
This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of LBP and its risk
factors among the pilots.
Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on pilots
over a one year period. Data was collected by a questionnaire and
percentage of LBP in different age decades, different classes of
body mass index (BMI) was reported.
Results: There was a significant differences between the prevalence of
LBP among fighter pilots (p<0.01). LBP levels between people who
had a eject was significantly more then the others. There was a
significant difference about the prevalence of LBP between age
groups and it increased with age. There was no relationship
between LBP and height, weight or BMI as well as flying hours. The
prevalence of LBP was significantly different in various bases.
Conclusion: Although the prevalence of LBP among Iranian pilots were
similar to other countries, but its high prevalence needs more
attention and subsequent studies should be conducted on ways to
reduce it. |
