Background and aims: Artificial intelligence (AI) holds significant potential for predicting, controlling, and managing infectious diseases. By utilizing machine learning, neural networks, and large-scale data analysis, AI enables faster pathogen identification, reduced disease transmission, and accelerated discovery of effective treatments. This narrative review aimed to examine AI applications that enhance global health systems in addressing threats posed by infectious agents. Methods: This narrative review was conducted by searching reputable scientific databases using relevant keywords to identify articles published between 2018 and 2024. Results: The findings demonstrated AI's broad utility across multiple domains, including the prevention, diagnosis, control, and treatment of infectious diseases. Conclusion: Through advanced data analysis and precise modeling, AI has played a crucial role in diagnosing infectious diseases, detecting antimicrobial resistance, identifying optimal treatment regimens, and accelerating vaccine development. This technology has contributed significantly to curbing transmission, reducing healthcare costs, and improving patient quality of life. AI offers promising opportunities for combating infectious diseases, particularly in resource-limited settings. The integration of AI with clinical expertise holds considerable potential for advancing global healthcare outcomes.
